Membership Chairman, Elsie Lacy

Elsie LacyElsie Lacy is a third generation Coloradan whose family homesteaded in southeast Colorado over 100 years ago. She still coordinates family reunions at the old family ranch and maintains contact with her rural heritage. Elsie served on various Aurora city boards and, subsequently eight years on the Aurora City Council. She served as chairman of the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG). In 1992, she was elected State Senator for District 28. In her term-limited eight years in the state senate, she was chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and alternating chair of the budget-setting Legislative Joint Budget Committee. Elsie retired from the State Senate in 2000 and subsequently ran her own business centered on her years of public service and then retired in 2010.

Elsie and her husband, Duane will celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary in November, 2014. They have lived 38 years in the Aurora home where their three children – Kevin, Karen and Kathryn – all grew up and attended Cherry Creek schools. They are grown and married now and brought into the family three more exceptional children – Chris, John and Ryan.  All live within a 20 mile, three county range of Mom. Those “growing years” saw her as a Boy Scouts leader and volunteer as well as a regular part of parent advisory committees on all three schools where the kids attended. Elsie volunteered in the libraries of all the schools the children attended. She taught her kids and other kids about a love for books. Elsie has numerous hobbies among which is not housekeeping! Genealogy is one of her favorite, of which she is an addict.

Much of her time is involved with five grandchildren – Kayla, Justine, Sydney, Tyson and Kacy. Through her activities with Friends of the Aurora Public Library, she enjoys meeting new people, seeing folks she hasn’t seen for years, watching shoppers’ faces light up when they realize the value they receive at The Book Outlet all while providing  ongoing service to her community.
