Kathy was born into a family of teachers where reading came as second nature and is a lifelong love. Growing up, attending college and getting married in Minnesota, Kathy hasn’t lived in that neck of the woods for over 40 years. Moving to follow jobs, she and her husband have spent time living in Cleveland, OH; Helena, MT; Hartford, CT; Birmingham, AL; finally landing in Colorful Colorado.
Although holding a BA degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology, Kathy worked for over 30 years in the financial services industry. This included stints as a manager of trust investment funds, corporate retirement plan administration including implementation, tax reporting, compliance testing, client service, legal document design, employee communication, sales and marketing.
Being fortunate enough to retire early, Kathy’s search for a way to give back to the community brought her to the Friends of the Aurora Public Library Book Outlet – first as a customer, then as a volunteer cashier and with some coaxing, to Publicity Chair. Kathy believes that the most successful non-profit organizations need to focus lots of energy externally to ensure that their community and the patrons they serve are aware of their existence and the benefits that the organization brings to their citizens. To that end, Kathy spends lots of time attempting to come up with innovative ways to raise the level of awareness of the Friends of the Aurora Public Library through media attention, print and social media visibility, special events, awards and recognition, community resource activities and other venues.
Kathy and her husband enjoy reading, hiking, cross country skiing, gardening, yoga and frequent travel to remote locations – usually to a beach and salt water where they can indulge in their passion for the ocean, diving and snorkeling.
