Kathleen has been the Secretary of the Board since 2009, having joined the Friends as a Member in 2008. Born in Denver, Kathleen is a third generation Colorado resident.
Kathleen began a career in the hospitality industry in 1976 and worked for over 25 years in Denver area hotels and facilities, including The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities and the Brown Palace Hotel. She has extensive experience in sales, catering, meeting services, menu design, convention services, special events planning, event budgeting, billing, daily departmental accounting and customer service. Kathleen also worked in the floral industry for many years, focusing on sales, bookkeeping, billing and design. She had her own wedding floral company and has freelanced many weddings and special events.
Kathleen has always been a devoted and varied reader, coming by it rather naturally. She is the great-granddaughter of a woman who was head of her small Colorado town’s Library Board and is the granddaughter of an avid reader who was the secretary of her town’s Reading Club for 30 years. She is the daughter of a woman who has been a member of her Book Club for 40 years.
Kathleen is thrilled to be part of this special Friends team who are operating a bookstore, a task undertaken by only a handful of Friends of Libraries nationally. A frequenter-of-libraries from a young age, she is pleased to volunteer her time, skills and efforts to help raise funds to support the ongoing programs and vital community services of the Aurora Public Library. She and her husband, Tony, enjoy reading, gardening, cooking, canning, entertaining, hiking, Denver and the West, photography … and… collecting cookbooks.
