Mission

The Mission of the Friends of the Aurora Public Library is to support the ongoing programs and services of the Aurora Public Library with financial donations and to celebrate the lifetime joys of reading by offering a wide variety of low cost books and other media in a vibrant, well organized atmosphere. The Friends provide knowledgeable, caring volunteers to assist customers with their reading needs.

Supporting The Library

All profits from the sale of books at the Book Outlet go directly to the Aurora Public Library to support programming that includes the summer and winter reading programs, storytime with special guests, summer camps at the library, educational classes and other fun activities like the famous Harry Potter Night.

In recent years, the Friends of the Aurora Public Library has provided between $40,000 and $50,000 annually to support these programs that engage Aurora’s youth, assist parents and schools with early literacy support and develop a lifelong love of reading.

Typically, the Aurora Public Library offers about 1,500 to 2,000 children’s and youth programs in its seven locations each year with attendance ranging from 40,000 to 50,000.   The Friend’s funding also supports over 600 outreach programs at youth events, summer parks programs and schools reaching up to 25,000.

The Aurora Public Library depends upon and thanks the Friends and their Book Outlet customers for the consistent and generous support each year as we all work together to strengthen our community now and into the future.
